The Coast Guard

It’s gripping and forcing,
The gleam of refraction
I squint, immobilized and dark.
I say unkind words to you.
I get a reaction.
Like testing the water
By throwing a stone
You have taken your raft
Returned to shore
You’re cursing and muttering
As I become the horizon
But opinion is easy
When paddling away
My eyes are watering
From the glinty squint
But I watch you anyway
As you become the distance
A Nimbus grows high
So while the sun is hidden
I turn to my stone
As it reaches the bottom,
Then think kinder thoughts,
Than I would ever say.
