Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

Now, I am no politician, economagician, nor do I have PhD in mathemagics or economagics.
That sentence alone should tell you how little of an expert I am.

I was however reading through the HST FAQ @http://hst.blog.gov.bc.ca/, and found it quite informative.

Granted it is filled with propaganda and lies, but it at least gives you a breakdown of how the HST will affect British Columbians. In general not a lot has changed for us, and most of us will hardly notice the change, but, that said, it is a change, and some things people will not like.

I urge everyone to read about it, as it affects us all. If you are really against HST then you should check out Bill VanderZalm and his petition against HST, though I know no details about his cause except that he can force a referendum if he gets X signatures.

In any case, be informed! Don’t be lazy!

One thing that gets my goat at the site however is their propaganda about how this tax will magically increase wages in BC because employers save more money and will in return pay higher wages to their employees.

I would like to see the day any company does that instead of pocketing the difference. Minimum wage has been frozen in BC for over a decade. We have the highest cost of living out of any province in the country. But us sheep gladly work the minimum wage jobs and complain to nobody as the divide between middle class and upper middle class widens.
Let’s face it, if you’re an employee – you might make enough to live, and maybe comfortably, but that’s not the majority of us. Until you’re an employer you won’t be making anything that amazing.

I’d love to see my former employer start handing out raises left and right to all the high school kids they’ve got who are willing to work for $8 an hour, and not put that extra profit into expansion and marketing. Minimum wage workers are everywhere. If one quits, you hire another. The job market is so tight right now that most of us take what we can get. So why in a market like that would any employer have incentive to raise wages?

Give me a break.

Anyway, take a look and LEARN PEOPLE.
