Remembrance

Isn’t it a funny thing

To ask to be remembered

Will you remember me?

We both wonder this

How will you remember me?

In each moment we had

There is a beautiful memory

Sunkissed flowing dresses

Hazy and still gazes at bedtime

Inevitably it all came crashing down

There is a necessity in remembrance

I don’t care how you think of me

Just that you think of me

I shuffle from anger to contempt

To despair to grief

To longing and loneliness

Love just isn’t enough

Lost in the possession of the other

We did truly love each other

Just as long as expectations were met

So that even after the schism

Remembrance causes ownership

I want you to feel how I felt

To know its shape and spin

To justify all my empty variations

I know now love truly isn’t enough

We must appreciate one another

In a manner of freedom and celebration

As to never pluck the petals from your rose

Simply so I can keep them with me always

The pinks are now tossed to the wind

Where they will find their way back to you

They were never mine to take

I have my own garden to tend to

Yours has every right to bloom too

I won’t take that away from you

At least all the shit makes for storied soil
